Country likely to be in grip of extreme heat

A cyclone has formed over the Bay of Bengal, and the country will be in the grip of an extreme heatwave as a result.

As the sun burns red hot today, the country’s plains will be engulfed in the sweltering heat. The mercury will rise to 42°C in Lahore today as a result of a hot wind that will sweep across the city all day. Starting on May 11, Sindh as a whole, including Karachi, will be subjected to an intense heatwave that could last until May 16.

Maximum temperatures in Karachi, Dadu, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Shaheed Benazirabad (Nawabshah), Naushero Feroz, Khairpur, Shikarpur, and Ghotki districts are expected to rise to 46 to 48 °C between May 11 and 16.

Temperatures are expected to rise during the day as the heatwave spreads across the country, according to the Meteorological Office. Today’s weather in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, and Balochistan is expected to be hot and dry.

Islamabad can expect the same hot and dry weather as the rest of Pakistan.

Even in the far north, including Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, the weather will be hot and dry, according to the Met Office.
