Lahore Traffic Police Launch Sunday Licence Facility for Rickshaws

The Lahore City Traffic Police has launched a special Sunday licensing facility for rickshaw drivers, aimed at making it easier for them to obtain driving licences and comply with traffic regulations.

Under the initiative, rickshaw drivers can apply for licences every Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Manawan Licensing Centre. According to officials, dedicated arrangements have been put in place to ensure smooth processing and to accommodate a large number of applicants.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi said the initiative is part of broader efforts to improve road safety and traffic discipline in Lahore.

“The objective is to ensure that rickshaw drivers possess proper knowledge of traffic laws, road safety measures and responsible driving practices,” Shirazi said, according to CTPL officials.

He added that many rickshaw drivers face difficulties visiting licensing centres on working days due to long working hours. The Sunday facility has therefore been introduced to encourage them to become licensed and operate within the legal framework governing road transport.

In addition to licensing services, the Lahore City Traffic Police has also started conducting awareness lectures and training sessions for rickshaw drivers. These sessions focus on improving professional driving skills, understanding traffic rules, and adopting safe driving habits to reduce accidents on city roads.

Officials believe that increased licensing coverage and driver education will help reduce traffic violations and enhance public safety, particularly on congested urban routes where rickshaws play a major role in daily transportation.

The CTPL urged rickshaw drivers to take advantage of the Sunday facility and contribute to safer and more orderly traffic conditions in the city.
