Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 and 6 Gen 5 Unveiled

Qualcomm has introduced two new mobile processors, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 and Snapdragon 6 Gen 5, targeting mid-range and budget smartphones expected to launch in 2026.

The company says the new chips are designed to bring better performance, improved battery efficiency, and modern connectivity features to more affordable devices, narrowing the gap between entry-level and flagship smartphones.

While Qualcomm’s high-end Snapdragon 8 Elite series continues to power premium devices, the latest announcement focuses on expanding advanced features to lower-cost segments of the global smartphone market.

Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 Targets Budget Smartphones

Built on a 4nm process, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 is aimed at entry-level smartphones. It features an octa-core architecture using Qualcomm’s Kryo CPU and Adreno GPU combination, including two performance cores clocked at 2.4GHz and six efficiency cores at 2.0GHz.

According to Qualcomm, the chip delivers a 77% improvement in GPU performance compared to its predecessor. The company also claims a 54% overall performance gain, although it has not specified the competing chip used in its comparison.

The processor supports smoother mobile gaming experiences, with gameplay reportedly reaching up to 90 frames per second on supported titles.

Efficiency Gains and Battery Improvements

The Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 also focuses on power efficiency, aiming to extend battery life for everyday users.

Qualcomm states that smartphones using the chipset may offer more than one additional hour of video playback, around 90 extra minutes of music streaming, and approximately 35 more minutes of voice calls on a single charge.

Other features include Snapdragon Sound with AptX Adaptive audio support, faster app launches, smoother interface animations, and dual active 5G SIM support.

These upgrades are designed to improve user experience in low-cost smartphones, which often struggle with performance and battery optimization.

Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 for Mid-Range Gaming

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 is positioned for mid-range devices that require stronger gaming and multitasking capabilities. It also uses a 4nm process but includes a more powerful CPU configuration with four 2.6GHz performance cores and four 2.0GHz efficiency cores.

Qualcomm says the chipset offers a 21% improvement in GPU performance over the previous generation along with better power efficiency.

Gaming-focused technologies include Adaptive Performance Engine 4.0, Snapdragon Game Super Resolution, and FPS 3.0 tuning, all aimed at stabilizing frame rates during intensive gameplay.

The company also claims users could experience nearly 40 additional minutes of gaming and at least two extra hours of music playback on a single charge.

Next-Gen Connectivity Features

Connectivity is another key focus area. The Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 introduces support for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, and BT Channel Sounding for improved tracking and device interaction.

Both new processors support 3GPP Release 17 and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 5G modem system. The Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 further enhances data performance with up to 25% faster upload speeds through dedicated uplink channels.

Device Launches Expected in 2026

Qualcomm says smartphones powered by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 and Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 are expected to arrive in the second half of 2026.

Several smartphone brands, including Honor, Realme, and Redmi, have already confirmed plans to adopt the new processors in upcoming devices.
