Google has begun rolling out a new AI-powered Inbox feature in Gmail, aiming to redefine how users manage and interact with their emails through intelligent summaries, task suggestions, and automated organization.
Branded as AI Inbox, the new feature introduces a redesigned interface that works alongside the traditional email list rather than replacing it. On the web version of Gmail, the AI Inbox appears above the standard inbox in the side panel, giving users instant access to a smarter, more contextual overview of their messages.
Personalized Email Briefings at a Glance
Google says the goal is to reduce inbox fatigue by eliminating the need to open multiple emails individually. Instead, AI Inbox provides a personalized briefing that highlights key information upfront. Users are greeted with a short summary, relevant details from recent emails, and a timestamp showing when the inbox was last refreshed.
This approach allows users to quickly understand what matters most without scrolling endlessly, making inbox management faster and more intuitive.
Smart “Suggested To-Dos” and Organized Topics
One of the standout features is the Suggested To-Dos section, which automatically surfaces actionable items such as bill payments, reminders, deadlines, and urgent requests. Each task includes a direct link to the original email and can be marked as complete with a single checkmark.
Less time-sensitive messages are grouped under Topics to catch up on, such as Events, Travel Planning, and Health & Wellness. This topic-based organization helps users stay informed while preventing less urgent emails from becoming overwhelming.
Powered by Advanced AI With Privacy Controls
The AI Inbox is powered by Google’s latest AI model and operates within what the company describes as an “engineered privacy” environment. According to Google, user data is processed securely within a dedicated space and does not leave that environment.
The company also emphasized that personal Google Workspace data is not used to train its AI models, addressing growing concerns around data privacy and AI usage.
Availability, Pricing, and More AI Tools
The AI Inbox was initially introduced to Trusted Testers in January and is now rolling out in beta to subscribers of Google’s AI Ultra plan, which is priced at $249.99 per month.
Alongside AI Inbox, Google has also launched additional AI-driven features, including AI Overviews in search and an advanced proofread tool designed to improve grammar, tone, and writing style.
With this rollout, Google is signaling a major push toward AI-first productivity, positioning Gmail as more than just an email service—now a smart assistant designed to manage information, tasks, and time more efficiently.
