Celine Dion Announces Comeback With 10 Concerts in Paris

PARIS – Canadian singer Celine Dion announced on Monday, her 58th birthday, that she will return to the stage this fall with 10 concerts scheduled in Paris, spread out over September and October, marking her first major live performance series since stepping away from touring due to a rare neurological condition.

The much-anticipated announcement followed an ad campaign in the streets of Paris that had fueled widespread speculation that the French-speaking Canadian star, best known for her powerful ballads and the Titanic theme song, would stage her comeback in the French capital.

An Emotional Birthday Announcement

“This year, I will receive the best gift of my life. I will have the chance to come and see you and to sing for you again in Paris starting this autumn, in September,” Dion said on French TV station France 2 on her birthday. The announcement was simultaneously advertised through a dramatic light show projected onto the Eiffel Tower, delighting fans who had gathered nearby.

Pre-sale tickets will go on sale on April 7, while the general public sale will begin on April 10. Given Dion’s legendary status and the long hiatus, tickets are expected to sell out within minutes.

A Career Interrupted by Illness

The performer rose to global stardom in the late 1990s with “My Heart Will Go On,” the theme song of the blockbuster film Titanic. She became one of the world’s all-time top earners from combined album sales and concert revenue, performing two record-breaking residencies in Las Vegas — from 2003 to 2007 and again from 2011 to 2019 — which were considered the most profitable gigs in music history at the time.

However, Dion put her career on hold in 2022 for medical reasons, revealing that she had been diagnosed with Stiff-Person Syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that causes severe muscle spasms and left her unable to sing. The diagnosis forced her to postpone and eventually cancel her “Courage World Tour,” leaving fans uncertain whether she would ever perform again.

First Reappearance at 2024 Olympics

Dion made her first public reappearance after nearly two years of silence during the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, where she delivered a moving version of Edith Piaf’s “Hymne à l’amour” from the Eiffel Tower. That performance was widely praised and immediately led to speculation that she might one day return to major stages around the world.

Now, with the announcement of 10 concerts in Paris, that speculation has become reality. Fans and industry observers alike are hailing the comeback as one of the most inspiring returns in music history, given the severity of her condition and the uncertainty surrounding her ability to perform.

Dion has not disclosed whether the Paris concerts will be followed by additional dates in other cities. However, the announcement alone has already sent waves of excitement through the global music community, with many calling it the most anticipated live event of the year.
