PSL 11: Lahore Qalandars Fine Captain Shaheen Afridi Rs1 Million Over Hotel Security Breach

LAHORE – Lahore Qalandars have imposed a Rs1 million fine on their captain, Shaheen Shah Afridi, after a security breach allowed unauthorized individuals access to the players’ room at the team hotel during the ongoing Pakistan Super League season, PSL 11.

The franchise confirmed in an official statement that an internal investigation had been conducted into the incident. While the team described the episode as a misunderstanding rather than a deliberate violation of security protocols, it acknowledged that a breach had occurred.

According to team officials, Shaheen had escorted guests belonging to teammate Sikandar Raza into the restricted players’ area despite security staff explicitly denying entry. The situation raised immediate alarm, prompting the franchise management to launch a full internal review.

The Qalandars also stated that they have formally notified the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) about the findings of their inquiry. The franchise took the opportunity to push back against what it termed exaggerated reporting of the incident, insisting that certain media narratives did not accurately reflect the facts.

“The action has been taken in the spirit of accountability and discipline,” the statement read, reaffirming the team’s commitment to respecting all security protocols.

On-Field Struggles Compound Off-Field Controversy

The disciplinary action against their captain comes as Lahore Qalandars navigate a turbulent start to their PSL 11 campaign. The Shaheen-led side currently occupies second place on the points table with two points from two matches, but the record tells a mixed story. They opened their tournament campaign with a victory over Hyderabad Kingsmen on March 26 but suffered a four-wicket defeat at the hands of Karachi Kings in their following outing.

That loss to Karachi was further overshadowed by disciplinary troubles. The Qalandars were penalized five runs for altering the condition of the ball during the match. Worse still, senior batter Fakhar Zaman has been charged with a Level 3 offence under Article 2.14 of the Code of Conduct. The charge relates to an alleged breach of playing condition 41.3, which strictly prohibits any attempt to change the condition of the ball. A Level 3 offence carries serious penalties, potentially including suspension or a heavy fine.

Taken together, the security breach involving their captain, the ball-tampering penalty, and the serious charge against one of their most experienced batsmen have created a challenging environment for Lahore Qalandars. As the team looks to stabilize its campaign in the early stages of PSL 11, the franchise will need to quickly restore discipline both on and off the field to keep its title hopes alive.
