Businessman Amir Safdar Awan Shot Dead in Islamabad Robbery

ISLAMABAD – A brazen pre-dawn robbery at a farmhouse in the capital’s affluent Margalla Town has left a well-known businessman dead, exposing serious vulnerabilities in the federal capital’s security apparatus and sending shockwaves through the local community.

The victim, identified as Amir Safdar Awan, was shot in the stomach after five armed suspects breached the perimeter of his residence by cutting through a security fence. The incident, which occurred within the jurisdiction of Shahzad Town police station, has triggered a full-scale police investigation and renewed public debate over residential safety in Islamabad.

What Happened Inside the Farmhouse?

According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by the victim’s wife, she was inside the bedroom with her husband while their two sons, Asad and Aryan, were asleep in adjacent rooms. She told police that she woke up to the sound of a struggle, finding three robbers physically confronting her husband inside the bedroom, while two other armed suspects stood guard outside.

The assailants, all carrying Kalashnikovs, did not hesitate to use lethal force. They fired a single shot that struck Awan in the abdomen, causing critical injuries. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, the businessman succumbed to his wounds during treatment.

CCTV Footage Surfaces

Surveillance footage from the farmhouse has since emerged, showing the five suspects — armed with automatic weapons — entering the property with tactical precision. The video is expected to play a decisive role in identifying the attackers, who fled the scene through a window after the shooting.

Before escaping, the robbers also disarmed security guards posted at the farmhouse, snatching their weapons and mobile phones.

Investigation and Manhunt Underway

Police have registered a murder and robbery case and confirmed that multiple raids are being conducted across the city to track down the fugitives. Investigators are also scrutinizing the CCTV footage for facial recognition, vehicle details, and escape routes.

The victim’s wife has stated that both family members and security staff would be able to positively identify the suspects if presented in a lineup — a development that could significantly accelerate the investigation.

Interior Minister Vows Swift Justice

Reacting to the rising alarm over the incident, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry assured the public that the perpetrators would be arrested soon.

“I want to make it clear that 100% of the accused in previous murder and robbery cases in Islamabad have been apprehended,” Chaudhry said. “The suspects involved in this heinous crime will not escape the law.”

Security Concerns in the Federal Capital

The killing has triggered widespread concern among residents of Margalla Town and other high-value sectors of Islamabad, many of whom now question the effectiveness of local policing and physical security measures.

Security analysts point to the ease with which armed suspects cut through fencing and neutralized guards, calling for urgent upgrades to surveillance infrastructure, police patrolling, and rapid response mechanisms in the capital’s vulnerable suburban zones.

As the manhunt continues, authorities are under mounting pressure to restore public confidence and ensure that the federal capital does not become a hunting ground for organized robbers.
