Punjab Launches Anti-Drone Units in All Districts

The Punjab government has announced the establishment of anti-drone units in every district to counter unauthorized drone activity by potential threats or miscreants using advanced jamming technology.

The units will also conduct aerial surveillance using specialized drone fleets to monitor district airspace, according to the provincial Home Department.

Nationwide Drone Ban and Security Measures

The move follows the federal government’s nationwide drone ban last month after rising tensions with Afghanistan sparked border clashes. Section 144 is currently in force across Punjab, prohibiting public drone flights due to security concerns.

Each anti-drone unit will operate under the leadership of the District Police Officer (DPO) in their respective districts.

A Home Department spokesperson said the systems are designed to disable unauthorized drones used by enemies or miscreants employing advanced technology.

Background: Border Clashes and Drone Threats

The heightened security measures come after February 26 attacks by the Afghan Taliban regime, which triggered clashes along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry confirmed that drone attacks in Abbottabad and Nowshera were successfully foiled during the exchanges with Taliban forces.

Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar also stated that security forces neutralized multiple small drones launched by Fitna al-Khawarij militants in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) following the border tensions.

The Punjab government’s anti-drone initiative is aimed at strengthening aerial security, protecting key districts, and preventing potential threats from miscreants or hostile actors operating drones across the province.
