Imran Khan has praised all of his internet “warriors” for spreading his story of a “foreign conspiracy” against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government across all social media platforms.
“I want to thank all of our social media warriors who have heroically carried our struggle against the US regime change plot ahead on all social media platforms,” he wrote late Sunday night on Twitter.
“Continue to fight for Pakistan’s sovereignty and democracy. You are our frontline combatants “Added he.
The deposed premier’s tweet comes amid calls to end social media campaigns against state institutions such as the armed forces and the courts.
The ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) stated nearly a week ago that the PTI was utilising botnets to generate coordinated and spam activity in order to artificially bolster their opposition to the government of newly-elected Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Following Imran Khan’s removal from power earlier this month, PML-N Vice-President Maryam Nawaz said that the PTI’s “criminal ring” led by him was waging a social media smear campaign against state institutions.
The ruling party leader said in a series of tweets that the damaging campaign and “lies” about a foreign conspiracy were propagated by a small group of people using hundreds of false accounts and bots.
PTI leaders and supporters, on the other hand, turned to Twitter to dismiss the PML-N leader’s suggestion that their reaction to the government on social media was not natural.
On April 12, the Federal Investigation Agency sprang into action, detaining five people, including a political activist, in a smear campaign against army head General Qamar Javed Bajwa.
The previous ruling party has waged an internet campaign against Imran Khan’s expulsion by a no-trust vote earlier this month, which they believe was sparked by a foreign conspiracy.
