The National Assembly Standing Committee on Interior and Narcotics Control has approved the Pakistan Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2025, clearing the way for the legislation to be presented before the National Assembly for final consideration.
The decision was taken during a meeting held at Parliament House, chaired by MNA Raja Khurram Shahzad Nawaz.
Prayers Offered for Victims of Tarlai Attack
At the outset of the meeting, committee members offered prayers for those who lost their lives in the recent suicide attack at an Imambargah in Islamabad’s Tarlai area, expressing solidarity with the affected families.
Discussion on Other Bills Deferred
The committee also took up the Islamabad Capital Territory Local Government (Amendment) Bill 2025 during the session. However, members agreed to defer detailed discussion on the bill to the next meeting.

Senior Officials Attend Meeting
The meeting was attended by lawmakers and senior officials from the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Law and Justice, and Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, along with the Director General of Passports, who provided input on matters related to citizenship and documentation.
Next Steps
With the committee’s approval, the Pakistan Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2025 is expected to be tabled in the National Assembly, where it will be debated before being put to a vote.
