The kite-flying business in Lahore witnessed a sharp surge during the ongoing Basant celebrations, with record-breaking sales reported across the city. According to the Kite Flying Association, the demand for kites, reels, and kite string continued to grow despite rising prices.
Legal adviser of the Kite Flying Association, Malik Faizan Ahmed, said that kite-related sales crossed Rs 1.22 billion on the fourth day alone, reflecting unprecedented commercial activity tied to the festival.
Over One Million Kite Reels Sold in a Single Day
Malik Faizan Ahmed revealed that more than one million kite string reels were sold on the fourth day of Basant. In addition, over 20,000 pannas, or spools of kite string, were purchased by buyers across Lahore.
He noted that availability remained strong in city markets, even as prices increased due to high demand.

Daily Sales Show Steady Growth
Daily transaction figures highlight sustained growth in the kite trade. Sales on the first day reached Rs 160 million, rising to Rs 180 million on the second day and Rs 200 million on the third day.
On the fourth day alone, buying and selling activity surged to Rs 680 million, pushing cumulative sales beyond the billion-rupee mark.
Lahore Markets Remain Hub of Kite Trade
The kite business remains active across several major markets in Lahore, including Androon Mochi Gate, Islam Pura, Sanda, Samanabad, Nonarian, and Ichhra, along with other densely populated localities. Traders report continued footfall as Basant festivities progress.
