Pakistan Launches Maktab System to Digitally Track University Students and Academic Records

Pakistan has introduced the Maktab system, a digital platform designed to maintain detailed records of students, including enrolment, grades, transcripts, and degrees, Federal Education Minister Wajiha Qamar announced on Monday.

The initiative, launched under the Higher Education Commission (HEC) framework, will initially cover 25 public universities and is planned to expand to all public universities nationwide.

The platform aims to enhance transparency, save time, and streamline academic tracking from admission to degree issuance.

AI-Driven Monitoring and Accountability

Minister Qamar explained that the Maktab system will allow authorities to monitor every student’s academic journey on a single portal, using artificial intelligence to ensure secure and efficient management. The platform also strengthens accountability and digital tender scrutiny, promoting transparency in university operations.

Students and parents will benefit from the ability to register complaints directly through e-katcheries and digital portals, improving oversight and service delivery across higher education institutions.

Phase One: BS Program Admissions

The first phase of the platform focuses on BS program admissions, covering approximately 4,000 students, with plans to expand to other academic programs over time.

Additionally, the Inter Board Coordination Commission (IBCC) has introduced a 24-hour online system for equivalence and verification, simplifying international board registrations and ensuring smoother processing for students applying abroad.

Modernizing Pakistan’s Education System

Minister Qamar emphasized that the Maktab platform and related reforms are part of a broader effort to modernize Pakistan’s education system, improve academic quality, and strengthen the country’s international education standards.
