PTA Updates Tax on Used iPhone 14 Models After FBR Revises Custom Values in Pakistan

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has updated tax values for smartphones after the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) revised custom valuation for imported old and used mobile phones.

The change applies to importers and commercial traders, while individual consumers registering personal phones will not see any change in PTA tax during device approval.

However, the revised values are expected to reduce retail prices of used smartphones in Pakistan, including models from Apple, Samsung, OnePlus, and Google.

New PTA Tax for iPhone 14 in Pakistan

Under the updated valuation, the PTA tax on a used iPhone 14 has been set at Rs. 24,584, based on an FBR-assigned custom value of $210. With non-PTA used iPhone 14 units typically selling between Rs. 100,000 and Rs. 120,000, the expected market price for a PTA-approved iPhone 14 is likely to fall in the range of Rs. 120,000 to Rs. 150,000, depending on condition and seller margins.

Revised PTA Tax for iPhone 14 Pro

A used iPhone 14 Pro without PTA approval usually sells for Rs. 120,000 to Rs. 140,000 in local markets. The updated PTA tax for this model is now Rs. 28,616, calculated on a custom value of $290. After adding tax and retail margins, the final expected price of a PTA-approved iPhone 14 Pro is estimated to be between Rs. 150,000 and Rs. 170,000.

New PTA Tax for iPhone 14 Pro Max

For buyers looking at the top variant, a non-PTA iPhone 14 Pro Max is currently available for around Rs. 150,000 to Rs. 170,000. With the revised PTA tax now set at Rs. 39,944, based on a custom value of $360, the expected retail price of a PTA-approved iPhone 14 Pro Max is likely to be Rs. 200,000 or higher, depending on storage variant and market demand.

Price Impact Will Reflect Gradually in Local Markets

Traders say that while the revised PTA and FBR values are already in effect, market prices may take some time to fully adjust, as existing inventory was imported under older tax structures. Consumers are expected to see more competitive pricing on used iPhones and other flagship phones in the coming weeks.
