Punjab Govt Approves New Navy Blue Uniform for Lahore Traffic Police

The Punjab government has approved a new uniform for Lahore traffic police, introducing a navy blue design to replace the current light blue attire. The decision applies only to Lahore, while traffic wardens in other districts of Punjab will continue wearing the existing uniform.

CM Maryam Nawaz Approves Uniform Redesign

Sources confirmed that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz approved the new uniform during a meeting with senior provincial officials. The move is aimed at giving traffic personnel in the provincial capital a more professional and distinct identity suited to Lahore’s high-traffic environment.

What the New Traffic Police Uniform Includes

The updated uniform for field staff on Lahore’s roads will consist of:

  • Navy blue trousers

  • White shirt and belt

  • Blue tie and jersey

  • Navy blue coat

  • Matching cap

For office-based staff, a formal dress code has been approved. Administrative and supervisory officers will be required to wear coats or blazers during duty hours.

Separate Designs for Field, Office, and Women Officers

Officials said three uniform prototypes were presented to the chief minister:

  • One for on-road traffic wardens

  • One for office and supervisory staff

  • One specifically designed for women officers

This approach aims to ensure practicality, comfort, and professional appearance across different roles within the traffic police department.

Phased Rollout After Procurement Process

The new uniform will be introduced in phases after procurement and distribution plans are finalized. Authorities have not announced a specific implementation date but confirmed that the rollout will begin once supplies are secured.

Earlier Plan Scrapped to Reduce Costs

Officials also revealed that a previous proposal to introduce fawn-colored uniforms was dropped last year due to high costs, saving approximately Rs. 60 million. The current navy blue design is seen as a cost-effective alternative that also improves visibility and authority on busy city roads.

Goal: Improved Professionalism and Public Confidence

According to officials, the uniform change is part of broader efforts to strengthen traffic management in Lahore, improve discipline among wardens, and enhance public confidence in traffic law enforcement across the city.
