The federal government has awarded Rs. 206.45 million in cash prizes to Pakistani athletes for their outstanding performances during the 2024–25 fiscal year, according to official details presented in parliament.

The financial incentives aim to recognize international achievements and encourage excellence in sports across multiple disciplines.

Arshad Nadeem Receives Highest Government Award

National javelin star Arshad Nadeem emerged as the largest recipient, receiving Rs. 152 million for his historic international achievements.

His coach, Salman Iqbal Butt, was also recognized for his role in the athlete’s success and awarded Rs. 10.6 million in coaching incentives.

Cash Awards for Snooker Champions and Medalists

Several snooker players were also honored for their international performances:

  • Muhammad Asif, World Snooker Champion — Rs. 2.5 million

  • Additional gold at SAARC Snooker Championship — Rs. 500,000

  • Ahsan Ramzan, Bronze at Asian U-21 Snooker Championship — Rs. 500,000

  • Muhammad Naseem Akhtar, Bronze at SAARC Snooker Championship — Rs. 100,000

Table Tennis and Special Olympics Athletes Also Rewarded

Athletes who won medals at the South Asian Regional Table Tennis Championship collectively received Rs. 1.45 million in government rewards.

Participants who secured medals at the Special Olympics World Winter Games were granted a combined total of Rs. 3.05 million, reflecting increased recognition for inclusive sports.

Squash and Taekwondo Players Earn Major Incentives

In squash competitions:

  • Winners of the Asian Junior Squash Championship received Rs. 1.75 million

  • Medalists at the World Under-23 Individual Squash Championship were awarded Rs. 7.5 million

Meanwhile, athletes who earned medals at the Asian Open International Taekwondo Championship received cash awards totaling Rs. 11.5 million.

Government Emphasizes Sports Development and Global Competitiveness

Officials said the financial rewards reflect the government’s commitment to promoting sports development in Pakistan, improving athlete performance, and increasing the country’s visibility in international competitions.

The incentive program is expected to motivate young athletes and strengthen Pakistan’s presence in global sporting events.
