The Safe Cities Authority Lahore has finalized special security arrangements for Basant celebrations, deploying advanced drone cameras and surveillance systems across the city to ensure public safety and strict enforcement of government-issued SOPs.
According to officials, 30 modern surveillance cameras have been installed at key locations, while drone monitoring will provide real-time aerial coverage throughout the festival period.
Drone Surveillance Across All Six Divisions of Lahore
Authorities confirmed that each of Lahore’s six divisions will be monitored using five drone cameras, ensuring full coverage of major roads, residential areas, and high-risk zones.
The drones are equipped with night-vision technology, allowing effective monitoring even after sunset. Surveillance operations will remain active during all three days of Basant celebrations.
Police and Safe Cities Staff to Monitor Violations in Real Time
The Lahore Police, in coordination with the Safe Cities Authority, will use drone footage to:
-
Identify illegal kite flying
-
Track crowd gatherings
-
Respond quickly to law and order situations
Additional monitoring responsibilities have been assigned to Safe Cities Authority staff, who will operate in three rotating shifts to maintain continuous surveillance across the city.
Citizens Urged to Report Violations on Helpline 15
Authorities have urged residents to cooperate by reporting any violations, including illegal kite flying or unsafe activities, by calling police helpline 15.
All available surveillance systems will be used to ensure strict compliance with government-issued Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) aimed at preventing accidents and maintaining public safety during the festival.
Government Emphasizes Zero Tolerance for Safety Violations
Officials reiterated that Basant-related activities will be closely monitored and that legal action will be taken against anyone found violating safety regulations. The surveillance plan is part of broader efforts to prevent injuries, power outages, and public disorder linked to unsafe kite-flying practices.
