Wellington: New Zealand have unveiled a 15-member squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, selecting an experienced mix of established stars and in-form performers for the global tournament to be held in India and Sri Lanka.
The squad announcement highlights the Black Caps’ focus on balance, pace, depth, and all-round options as they prepare for the February–March showpiece.
Jacob Duffy Earns Maiden T20 World Cup Call-Up
Fast bowler Jacob Duffy has been included in a T20 World Cup squad for the first time following an outstanding 2025 season. The 31-year-old pacer enjoyed a record-breaking year, claiming 81 international wickets, surpassing the previous New Zealand record of 79 set by Sir Richard Hadlee.
Duffy’s performances also propelled him to second place in the ICC T20I bowling rankings, cementing his place among the world’s top white-ball bowlers.
Santner to Lead Experienced New Zealand Side
All-rounder Mitchell Santner has been named captain for the tournament. He will lead a squad packed with experience, including Devon Conway, Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, James Neesham, and Rachin Ravindra.
The batting unit is bolstered by aggressive top-order options Finn Allen and Tim Seifert, while the middle order offers depth through multi-skilled players capable of contributing in all departments.
Strong Pace and Spin Attack for Subcontinent Conditions
New Zealand have selected a formidable bowling lineup, combining pace and spin well-suited to conditions in India and Sri Lanka. Alongside Duffy, the pace attack includes Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson, Adam Milne, and all-rounder James Neesham.
Spinner Ish Sodhi provides wicket-taking ability in the middle overs, supported by Santner’s control and versatility. Kyle Jamieson has been named as the travelling reserve fast bowler.
Injury Updates and Player Availability
Several players are currently managing minor injuries, including Finn Allen, Mark Chapman, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, and Mitchell Santner. Team officials have indicated that all are expected to be fully fit before the tournament begins.
Ferguson and Henry may briefly leave the squad during the competition due to paternity leave, with contingency plans in place if required.
New Zealand’s Group and Tournament Schedule
The ICC T20 World Cup 2026 will run from February 7 to March 8, with matches hosted across India and Sri Lanka.
New Zealand have been placed in Group D, alongside Afghanistan, South Africa, UAE, and Canada, setting up a competitive group stage.
