Punjab Winter Vacations Not Extended, Schools to Reopen on January 12

Winter Holidays Announced for All Schools and Colleges in Islamabad

Speculation regarding a possible extension of winter vacations has caused uncertainty among students and parents across Punjab, following widespread claims shared on social media platforms. The provincial government has now issued an official clarification to put the matter to rest.

Education Minister Confirms Reopening Date

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has confirmed that no proposal is under consideration to extend winter holidays for educational institutions. He stated that schools and colleges will resume regular classes on January 12, 2026, in line with the previously announced schedule.

The minister strongly rejected online reports suggesting a change in the vacation timeline, labeling them inaccurate and misleading. He advised the public to avoid circulating unverified content and rely only on official government communications.

Winter Holidays Announced Earlier

The Punjab Education Department had earlier announced winter vacations for all public and private schools and colleges from December 22, 2025, through January 10, 2026. According to the notification, educational institutions are required to reopen after the holidays without any delay.

Concerns Over Private Institutions

Despite the official announcement, several private educational institutions reportedly did not fully observe the winter break. In some cases, students were allegedly instructed via informal channels, including WhatsApp messages, to attend classes from January 6, 2026, raising concerns among parents.

Parents Call for Government Action

The issue has prompted parents and education experts to demand strict enforcement of government directives. They have urged authorities to ensure that all private institutions follow the officially declared vacation period to avoid confusion and unnecessary pressure on students.

Authorities Urge Public to Trust Official Sources

Education officials have reiterated that the winter vacation schedule remains unchanged and stressed that compliance is mandatory for all educational institutions. The public has been encouraged to follow updates issued by the Punjab Education Department and ignore unverified social media claims.
