PCB to Take Over Multan Sultans in PSL 2026; Mohammad Rizwan’s Captaincy Under Review

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to take control of Multan Sultans ahead of the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL 11) season. Following the exit of franchise owner Ali Tareen, the PCB will directly manage the team during the transition year, preparing for a new Multan Sultans owner in 2027.

Mohammad Rizwan Captaincy Under Review

As part of the PCB takeover, the future of Mohammad Rizwan as Multan Sultans captain is under serious consideration. Senior players may also be released, as the board evaluates the PSL team roster and leadership to strengthen the franchise for upcoming seasons.

Senior PSL Players May Be Released

Sources suggest top Pakistan Super League players, including Saud Shakeel from Quetta Gladiators and David Warner from Karachi Kings, could also face release as part of major PSL player transfers and team reshuffles ahead of 2026.

One-Year PCB Transition Before Franchise Auction

The PCB’s interim management of Multan Sultans will serve as a transition year, after which the franchise is expected to be auctioned to a new PSL owner in 2027. Officials are also expected to revise team strategy, captaincy, and player lineup during this period.

Ali Tareen Exit Sparks PCB Intervention

Franchise owner Ali Tareen parted ways with Multan Sultans in November 2025, following reportedly tense relations with the PCB. His exit has paved the way for PCB control, team restructuring, and potential leadership changes, including a review of Mohammad Rizwan’s captaincy.
