President Dr. Arif Alvi, who previously demonstrated his inability to take the oath of office from members of the federal cabinet due to health concerns, has finally yielded and agreed to perform his constitutional duty.
President Arif Alvi swore three new federal ministers and one new state minister into office on Friday. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was present at the Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad to witness the oath-taking ceremony.
Federal Ministers Chaudhry Salik Hussain, Mian Javaid Latif, and Agha Hassan Baloch all took the oath. Hashim Notezai, the Balochistan National Party’s state minister nominee, was also sworn in.
The cabinet members took a solemn oath to “bear true faith and allegiance to Pakistan, to discharge their duties honestly and faithfully in accordance with the Islamic Republic of Pakistan’s Constitution and the law.”
“I will work to preserve the Islamic Ideology that underpins Pakistan’s establishment. That I will not allow personal interests to influence my official conduct or decisions,” the new ministers declared as they chorus-read the official oath’s text.
On April 19, Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani swore in the cabinet of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, consisting of 33 members.
