Zahid Akram Durrani, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, took the oath of office on Thursday.
Mr. Durrani was sworn in by National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf.
According to a notification from the NA Secretariat, JUI Member National Assembly Durrani was elected unopposed as National Assembly Deputy Speaker on Wednesday, as no other candidate submitted nomination papers.
The seat became vacant when Qasim Suri resigned as a result of the Pakistan Muslim League motion Nawaz’s of no confidence against him (PML-N).
It is pertinent to mention here that Raja Pervaiz Ashraf of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was elected unopposed as the 22nd Speaker of the National Assembly on April 16 after no other candidate filed nomination papers.
