Govt Allocates Rs. 600 Million for Wildlife Projects Across Lahore

The Punjab Finance Department has provided significant funds for upgrades across Lahore’s wildlife facilities.

According to official sources, Lahore Zoo has been allocated Rs. 100 million for its revamping project. Meanwhile, Lahore Safari Zoo has received Rs. 50 million to support ongoing development works.

In addition, the government has sanctioned Rs. 400 million for the construction of a modern wildlife theatre and cinema, aiming to enhance public education and visitor experience.

To conduct a comprehensive animal census, another Rs. 40 million has been approved.

All these funds have been issued to the Forests and Wildlife Department to execute the planned projects.

In other news, Lahore Safari Park reported that a newborn Addax and Arabian Oryx have joined their respective herds, raising the Addax population to 14 and the Oryx herd to 9.

The Addax group now includes four males, seven females, and three young ones, while the Arabian Oryx herd consists of three males, three females, and three juveniles.

Dr Rizwan Khan, Director of Veterinary Services at the Safari Park, said these species arrived in Lahore in March 2024 as part of the Safari Upgradation Project.

He added that the non-native antelopes are cared for under a strict veterinary schedule and kept in spacious, species-compatible enclosures.
