Punjab to Establish New Industrial Zone

Punjab Minister for Industries and Commerce Chaudhry Shafay Hussain on Saturday announced that a new industrial estate will be established near the Rawalpindi Ring Road to meet the growing demand of industrialists.

During a visit to the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI), the minister said improved industrial infrastructure has strengthened investor confidence, attracting both local and foreign investment into Punjab.

He revealed that mobile phone manufacturing is set to begin in the province within the next six months.

Hussain added that Punjab will also host lithium battery manufacturing plants, with several new industrial estates being developed based on industry needs.

“For the first time, industrial units are being set up in the Bahawalpur Industrial Estate, and construction of 10 new factories has started in Quaid-i-Azam Business Park, Sheikhupura,” he said.

Upgrading of small industrial estates

The minister said that the Punjab chief minister has approved a major programme to upgrade infrastructure in small industrial estates, while a dedicated garment city has already been completed in Sheikhupura to boost the textile sector.

He urged industrialists to take advantage of investment opportunities in Punjab’s special economic zones, where new facilities will become operational next month.

He also warned that plots allotted in industrial estates are being permanently cancelled if owners fail to establish units as required by policy.
