Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Thursday and discussed the country’s current political situation.
At the first cabinet meeting, Sindh Chief Minister congratulated the Prime Minister on his commitment to working collaboratively for the country’s development. He also briefed the prime minister on Sindh’s administrative issues.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed the Sindh chief minister on the occasion to ensure the implementation of the relief package distributed to the populace during Ramazan.
“The current government’s first priority is to provide immediate relief to those affected by inflation,” he added.
“The provinces and the federal government will work cooperatively to provide relief to the public,” the prime minister pledged.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media outside an accountability court in Islamabad, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah admitted that the Sindh government’s response to the Mehar fire incident was slow.
He stated that the local municipal committee’s fire department was inoperable, adding that negligent officials would face stiff penalties.
“Within seven days, a report on the incident will be requested,” he stated, vowing to rebuild the homes destroyed in the fire.
Murad stated that Imran Khan insisted on a foreign plot against his government, but his minister stated that if their relations with the establishment were favorable, they would be in the government.
He told Imran Khan that people were aware of his previous statements, adding, “You were expelled from the National Assembly due to a lack of parliamentarians.”
In response to a question about President Dr. Arif Alvi’s role, he stated that the president’s responsibility was to uphold the Constitution. “The president has two choices: carry out his constitutional responsibilities or resign.”
He also stated that he was required to travel from Karachi to Islamabad for each hearing on the Nooriabad Power Plant reference, adding that power load-shedding was being implemented throughout Sindh due to a lack of fuel at the power plant. “Controlling summer load shedding will be a significant challenge.”
