The Lahore High Court has directed the advocate general to obtain instructions from the Punjab governor and submit a report to the court tomorrow, dismissing the petitioner’s request to continue hearing the Hamza Shehbaz oath-taking case.
On Thursday, LHC Chief Justice Muhammad Ameer Bhatti heard the case of Punjab Chief Minister-elect Hamza. The court directed the advocate general to seek instructions from Punjab Governor Umar Sarfraz Cheema, who refused to administer the oath of office to Chief Minister-elect Hamza Shehbaz on the grounds that his election was disputed, according to the Punjab assembly secretariat’s report. The court directed the AG to submit a report the following day.
However, the petitioner’s lawyer Ahson Bhoon Advocate pleaded with the court to continue hearing the case after 1 p.m. due to the presence of an additional advocate general in the court.
The chief justice was irritated by the lawyer’s haste and reprimanded him, saying ‘lawyers stay at home for ten days and then insist on deciding cases quickly’.
Justice Bhatti advised him that ‘courts operate according to a system; allow the courts to operate according to their system’.
PML-Q submits a petition to join the party
Meanwhile, the PML-Q submitted an application to join Hamza Shehbaz’s oath-taking petition.
The petition was presented by PML-Q General Secretary Kamil Ali Agha.
According to the petition, the PML-Q is also a party to the Hamza oath-taking case. According to the report, a fracas occurred in the Punjab Assembly during the election of the chief minister. Allow the PML-Q to join the case, and the petition continues.
