Polish Woman Arrives in Pakistan to Marry Her Social Media Friend

A Polish woman who became friends with a Pakistani man on social media has travelled to Sargodha, embraced Islam, and married him in a local court.

Officials said the woman, identified as Mangorzana, arrived in Punjab after her online friendship with Matiullah from Bhalwal’s Manoor Hayat area turned into a relationship.

Before the marriage took place, she converted to Islam at Jamia Masjid Hamid Shah, where religious scholar Qazi Nigah Mustafa Chishti administered the conversion.

She adopted the Islamic name Maryam and later married Matiullah in the family court of Judge Samar Hayat.

Maryam said that she came to Pakistan of her own free will and accepted Islam without any pressure. She said she wished to live with her husband and described both her conversion and marriage as personal choices.

This is the second such case reported this month.

Earlier, an Indian Sikh woman named Sarbjit Kaur traveled to Sheikhupura on November 4 to attend events marking the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak.

She developed a friendship on social media with a Pakistani man, Naseer Hussain, which later led her to convert to Islam and adopt the name Noor. Court records confirmed her marriage after she appeared before a judicial magistrate.
