Mohsin Naqvi has declared a good incentive boost for Pakistan Super League franchises, aligning financial rewards with both on-field success and long-term cricket development, starting with the PSL 2026 edition.
Reward for the upcoming PSL editions
The PCB chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, revealed a revamped rewards structure for the upcoming PSL editions, with the champions set to receive $500,000 and the runners-up $300,000 on top of the actual prize money, which will be revealed soon.
Alongside this, a new category has been introduced: a $200,000 prize for the “Best Franchise contributing towards Cricket Development.”
On paper, it reads like a straightforward enhancement of prize money. In practice, it signals a shift in how franchises will be measured and motivated.
Naqvi stated that the newly announced prize money for the franchises will come into effect from the PSL 2026 season onwards.
PSL teams have largely been evaluated on results and brand visibility. With this new development award, their contribution to the broader cricketing ecosystem will also come under the spotlight.
This move encourages franchises to invest in meaningful, structured pathways. Youth academies, age-group programs, regional scouting, coach education, and facilities in underserved areas can now directly translate into recognition and reward. What was previously seen as optional corporate responsibility could become a key part of a franchise’s competitive strategy.
The additional prize money for champions and runners-up will keep the competitive edge intact on the field. The development-focused reward, however, challenges owners and management to think beyond a single season.
If accompanied by clear criteria, transparent evaluation, and proper oversight, this initiative can trigger a positive race among franchises to invest deeper and smarter into Pakistan’s cricketing structure.
“Let’s take Pakistan cricket to new heights,” Naqvi wrote in his announcement. With this calibrated mix of performance and development incentives, the PSL now has a framework that can reward teams on how they actually perform.
