Islamabad will have 30 free Wi-Fi hotspots by December 2025 under a government plan to expand public internet access.
The National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) briefed the National Assembly’s IT Committee and confirmed that work on the project is progressing quickly.
Officials said the initiative supports the government’s policy to strengthen digital infrastructure across the country.
The free Wi-Fi hotspots will be installed at major public locations, markets, and government buildings in Islamabad so citizens and students can easily access high-speed internet.
NTC added that it currently provides services — including cybersecurity support — to more than 3,000 public and private institutions in over 100 cities nationwide.
According to officials, the free Wi-Fi project will be an important step toward making Islamabad a technology-friendly city.
Earlier, officials briefed a meeting that the CDA’s technical team will extend full support to NTC in the execution of this project. It was further informed that the system will be operated and maintained by NTC, with the objective of transforming Islamabad into the country’s first-ever free Wi-Fi city in the near future.
