The Punjab government has introduced amendments to the Motor Vehicle Act, imposing hefty fines for eight major traffic violations in a bid to enforce stricter adherence to traffic laws and maintain order on the roads.
Under the revised regulations, vehicle owners with smoke-emitting or polluting vehicles will face significant fines. Motorcyclists will be fined Rs5,000, while cars and jeeps will incur a penalty of Rs 10,000.
Public service vehicles will face fines of Rs15,000, and heavy transport vehicles will be penalized with Rs20,000.
The government has also introduced stringent penalties for littering from moving vehicles. Motorcycles will be fined Rs2,000, cars and jeeps Rs10,000, public service vehicles Rs15,000, and heavy vehicles Rs20,000.

Similar fines will apply for parking vehicles in no-parking zones.
Seatbelt violations will carry fines of Rs10,000 for cars and jeeps, Rs15,000 for public service vehicles, and Rs20,000 for heavy vehicles.
The most severe penalties have been set for underage driving, with fines up to Rs25,000 for motorcycles, Rs. 30,000 for cars and jeeps, Rs50,000 for public service vehicles, and Rs100,000 for heavy vehicles.
Using a mobile phone while driving will result in fines of Rs5,000 for motorcyclists, Rs10,000 for cars and jeeps, Rs15,000 for public service vehicles, and Rs20,000 for heavy vehicles.
Motorcycles carrying more than two passengers will face a Rs5,000 fine, and parking on footpaths or main roads will incur penalties ranging from Rs2,000 to Rs20,000, depending on the vehicle type.

According to the Punjab government, these new regulations are being implemented to promote responsible driving, reduce road accidents, and ensure the safety of citizens and their property.
