The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) challenged in the Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday the schedule announced by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for making new demarcations ahead of the country’s next general elections.
In its petition, which included the federal government, the ECP, the secretary ECP, the Bureau of Statistics, provincial chief secretaries, and the secretary cabinet as respondents, the party argued that new delimitations were unnecessary until the next census. “As a result, it is prayed to the Supreme Court not only to declare the demarcations made on May 3, 2018, as ‘correct’ and ‘final,’ but also to declare the new schedule ‘unconstitutional,” according to the petition.
PTI, in a petition filed by its senior leader Asad Umar, asked the court to order the election commission and the secretary of the ECP to begin making preparations for the country’s next general elections without further delay.
