Why anti-smog guns failed in Punjab?

A major setback for the Punjab government, as the anti-smog guns, which were called the ultimate solution to Lahore’s air pollution, have failed, and the residents of the provincial capital have once again woken up choking on the world’s most polluted air.

According to IQAir, Lahore recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 443 on Friday morning, making it the most polluted city in the world today.

Lahore’s air quality reached dangerous levels, far exceeding safe limits set by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Air Quality Index of different countries

Delhi, India, followed behind with an AQI of 178, while Kuwait City ranked third at 168. Other major cities struggling with poor air quality include Karachi (163), Doha (153), and Beijing (152).

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, also made it to the top 10 list with an AQI of 135, indicating unhealthy conditions for sensitive groups.

Reasons behind anti-smog guns’ failure in Punjab

Experts attribute Lahore’s persistently poor air quality to a mix of vehicular emissions, industrial activity, and crop burning in surrounding areas.

Meteorological conditions have also trapped pollutants closer to the surface, intensifying the smog.
