Court reserves decision on Shehbaz Sharif’s bail rejection plea

Arab-Islamic summit: PM Shehbaz reaffirms call for free Palestinian state

Special Judge Central in Lahore reserved his verdict on Monday on a petition filed by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) seeking to reject Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif’s bail plea in a money laundering case, as well as on determining the court’s jurisdiction.

During the hearing, the prosecution asked the court to revoke the PML-N president’s bail extension granted on March 25, 2022, arguing that legal requirements were not met.

Amjad Pervez, Shehbaz’s counsel, on the other hand, cited various court decisions to bolster his argument that the court could grant his client an extension.

Advocate Pervez prayed to the court to reject the FIA’s bail cancellation application, claiming it was unjustified.

He continued by saying that if the Agency objected to the bail extension, it should have brought the matter before the Lahore High Court.

Additionally, Shehbaz’s counsel stated that similar extensions had been granted in the past and contained nothing novel.
