LAHORE: PML-Q leader and Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Parvez Elahi claimed on Sunday that his party’s numbers in the race for the chief minister slot are greater than the opposition’s.
After a scuffle between the government and the opposition, a session of the Punjab Assembly to elect a new leader of the House was adjourned until April 6 without voting.
The PML-Q leader was speaking to the media outside the Punjab Assembly, flanked by Muhammad Basharat Raja, Hafiz Ammar Yasir, and other Punjab Assembly members, when he stated that his party was fully prepared to face the Opposition.
Speaking about the session, he stated that due to the uproar and commotion caused by the PML-N in the Punjab Assembly, the deputy speaker was forced to adjourn.
“When the election process began, those elected on PTI tickets went to the opposition and told them [Opposition] that this is not your place,” he said. When they began approaching us, opposition members attacked them, and everyone witnessed what happened.”
Parvez stated that the Punjab Assembly will not be dissolved. “Chaudhry Sarwar and I have a long and friendly relationship. Whatever he says, I will remain silent. Allah knows what Chaudhry Sarwar’s future holds. Six days ago, the prime minister did me a favor. For three and a half years, you have been enjoying the governorship.”
In response to a question, the speaker stated that Abdul Aleem Khan and Jahangir Tareen have been discharged from their positions. Aleem should resign from this position and work for the greater good of society. On April 6, he added, the entire scenario will be resolved.
