Sri Lanka finally announce squad for 2025 Asia Cup.
Sri Lanka has also announced their best 16‑member squad for the 2025 Asia Cup, starting next month in the UAE.
The team has received a timely boost, as star leg‑spinning all‑rounder Wanindu Hasaranga has been named in the touring party, though concerns remain about his injury status.
Hasaranga ruled out temporarily
Hasaranga, who suffered a hamstring injury during the recent series against Bangladesh, had been ruled out of the upcoming T20Is against Zimbabwe.
However, selectors are hopeful he will regain full fitness in time for the Asia Cup, where Sri Lanka begin their campaign on September 13 against Bangladesh.

Compared to the side that lost to Bangladesh earlier this year, Sri Lanka’s Asia Cup squad features four changes. Out go Avishka Fernando, Dinesh Chandimal, Jeffrey Vandersay, and Eshan Malinga, while Nuwanidu Fernando, Kamil Mishara, and experienced pacer Dushmantha Chameera return.
Notably, veteran Angelo Mathews has once again been overlooked—a strong signal that the selectors may not consider him for the 2026 T20 World Cup despite his availability for white‑ball cricket.
