ISLAMABAD: Pakistani security agencies have detected an “assassination plot” against Prime Minister Imran Khan, according to Fawad Chaudhry, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting.

The minister announced via Twitter that the administration has decided to beef up the prime minister’s protection.

“Security authorities have reported the possibility of an assassination plot against Prime Minister Imran Khan.” Following these claims, the prime minister’s security has been reinforced per the government’s decision,” Fawad tweeted.

It may be noted that PTI leader Faisal Vawda had claimed that PM Imran Khan’s life was in danger and that a plan was being devised to assassinate him.

“A conspiracy to assassinate Prime Minister Imran Khan is being hatched as political tensions build in the country,” the former federal minister stated in an interview with a private television channel on Wednesday.

He went on to say that the premier had received a death threat as well.

“We have frequently advised him to utilize bulletproof glass when addressing rallies […] in response, the premier has declared that when his time comes, he will die,” Vawda said.

In response to an inquiry, the former federal minister stated that the conspiracy was tied to the government’s receipt of a “secretive” letter. “There isn’t just one letter; there are several,” he asserted.
