The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) separately contacted the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) factions Aleem Khan Group and like-minded Chheena Group on Wednesday for the support of their assembly members to win the seat of Chief Minister in Punjab.
Both sides have approached the Aleem Khan Group for assistance. According to insiders, the Aleem Khan Group’s stance is scheduled to be made public today.
According to sources close to the situation, Chaudhry Moonis Elahi of the PML-Q and Rana Sanaullah and Ataullah Tarar of the PML-N contacted Chheena Group head Ghazanfar Abbas Chheena.
Both parties’ leaders solicited support for their respective nominees for the position of Chief Minister in Punjab.
The Chheena Group alleged that the PML-Q offered them cabinet participation in Punjab, whereas the PML-N guaranteed them tickets in the upcoming elections.
According to Malik Ghazanfar Abbas, a meeting of the group members has been convened for Wednesday (today) in Lahore to assess the situation.
He claimed that the like-minded Chheena Group had 14 assembly members and that the number would grow as more assembly members got in touch with them.
It should be noted that Punjab politics has picked up speed as political parties in the province have increased their attempts to secure the post of Chief Minister.
