The National Assembly’s important session, with a no-confidence resolution on the agenda, will begin at 11 a.m. today (Friday).
Both the opposition and the government have devised strategies for the upcoming session. In the event that National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser adjourns the session indefinitely, the opposition has decided to stage a power show. In the event that the house is adjourned, there is also the possibility of a strong protest.
The ministers believe that the speaker has the right to call the assembly to order.
However, the opposition claims that the speaker has already broken the law by calling the assembly session late, after more than 14 days have passed since the opposition’s requisition for summoning the session was submitted on March 8.
As the custodian of the National Assembly of Pakistan, Speaker Asad Qaiser said in a tweet on Wednesday that he would fulfill his constitutional obligations and proceed in accordance with Article 95 of the Constitution and Rule 37 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007.
However, it is worth noting that the no-trust resolution may not be discussed in today’s session because MPs will attend a prayer for late PTI MNA Khayal Zaman, who died on February 14.
The first session after the death of a member of the National Assembly is traditionally dedicated to prayers for the departed soul, and fellow MPs pay their respects to the deceased.
On Thursday, the National Assembly Secretariat released a 15-point agenda for the session, which included the no-trust resolution. Following approval to present the motion, as many as 152 MPs will present a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan.
