Carole King, one of Taylor Swift’s lifelong musical inspirations, has publicly praised the pop superstar after Swift announced the triumphant reacquisition of her master recordings, a deal reportedly worth $360 million.

The 83-year-old music legend, whom Swift inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2021, reacted warmly to the news by sharing Swift’s announcement on her Instagram Stories, writing, “You continue to inspire!”

According to The Dailymail, the post featured a series of emojis, including a pink heart and music notes — a subtle but heartfelt gesture from a songwriter whose influence runs deep in Swift’s career.

The Eras Tour singer, 35, broke the news on Friday, revealing she had successfully bought back her original music catalogue from Shamrock Capital, the firm that had acquired it from Scooter Braun.

Braun, who Swift has described as a “bully”, had purchased the masters from Big Machine in 2019 before selling them to Shamrock a year later,  a move that left the pop icon devastated.

“I almost stopped thinking it could ever happen,” Swift wrote in a moving statement posted to her website. “But that’s all in the past now… All of the music I’ve ever made… now belongs… to me.”

The announcement was teased on Instagram with a post captioned, “You belong with me. Letter on my site :).” The accompanying photos featured Swift in a soft blue sweater and jeans, smiling beside six of her albums, a symbolic image of both victory and creative reclamation.

Swift’s bond with King is well-documented. At the 2021 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, Swift gave a moving tribute, saying: “I was raised by two of her biggest fans… Carole King is the greatest songwriter of all time.” She added, “Carole taught artists like me that telling your own story is worth the work and struggle.”

Swift also performed a heartfelt rendition of King’s co-written classic “Will You Love Me Tomorrow” at the event, a moment that brought King to tears.

King, in turn, has consistently praised Swift’s artistry.

In 2019, she presented Swift with the Artist of the Decade Award at the American Music Awards, recognising the younger star’s enduring impact on pop songwriting.
