US doing ‘big deals’ with Pakistan and India, says Trump.

Taking credit for ensuring a ceasefire between Pakistan and India, US President Donald Trump said the United States is doing “big deals” with the two nuclear-armed neighbours, reported The Asian Mirror.

Speaking at a news conference alongside South African President Cyril Ramaphosa at the White House in Washington on Wednesday, President Trump said, “If you take a look at what we just did with Pakistan and India, we settled that whole thing, and I think I settled it through trade.”

“We’re doing a big deal with India. We’re doing a big deal with Pakistan,” he maintained.

The US is Pakistan’s largest export market, with over $5 billion in annual exports as of 2024, while Pakistan’s imports from the US are about $2.1 billion.

Trump said, “Somebody had to be the last one to shoot. The shooting was getting worse and worse, bigger and bigger, deeper and deeper into the countries. We spoke to them, and I think you know we got it settled, and then two days later, something happens, and they say it’s Trump’s fault.”

While India falsely claims that Pakistan had violated the US-facilitated ceasefire hours after Trump announced it, the US president praised the leadership of both nations.

Trump said, “Pakistan has some excellent people and some really good leaders and India is my friend… Modi, he’s a great guy.”

Trump’s latest comments follow earlier statements this month in which he suggested he “helped” achieve a ceasefire along the volatile Pakistan-India border. This claim has been met with silence from New Delhi but acknowledgement and thanks from Islamabad.
