With nine wickets in hand, England Women’s Cricket team won their match against Pakistan Women’s Cricket Team in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup on Thursday. Danni Wyatt threw a game-winning inning.
England cruised to victory with a nine-wicket victory! They have not only gained six points on the table, but they also have a superior net run-rate than India, putting them in fourth place. Katherine Brunt, whose return to form would have pleased England, and Sophie Ecclestone, who was once again too good in the tournament, were instrumental in the victory. Both Brunt and Ecclestone picked up three wickets apiece to hold Pakistan to a score of 105.
That’s it for now! With more than 30 overs to spare, England wins by 9 wickets. Wyatt delivers a short leg delivery and tucks it down to fine leg for a four.
Katherine Brunt and Sophie Ecclestone both took three wickets as England cruised past Pakistan to win their World Cup match in Christchurch with a target of just 106 runs.
Brunt, the experienced England seamer, had only taken one wicket in five matches before taking 3 for 17 from eight overs to assist Pakistan to be dismissed for 105 in 42 overs, while Ecclestone took 3 for 18.
After winning the toss and electing to bowl first on a Hagley Oval pitch with some live grass, England struck first with Brunt, who looked skywards with arms outstretched in relief when she had Nahida Khan, who had been called into the Pakistan side to open in place of Muneeba Ali, caught at slip by Heather Knight playing a long way forward to a full, late-moving outswinger that found the outside edge.
When Bismah Maroof turned a full ball off Anya Shrubsole to the vacant region at backward square leg and called for a second run, wicketkeeper Amy Jones dashed after the ball and fired it sharply to the striker’s end, where Sophia Dunkley was waiting to remove the bails with Bismah short of her ground, Pakistan lost their captain.
Pakistan was reduced to 2 for 11 in the first four overs, and by the end of the powerplay, they had only gained 17 runs.
Omaima Sohail had a reprieve thanks to a communication breakdown as she attempted a lofted drive off Nat Sciver while Ecclestone and Dunkley waited for each other to claim the catch and the ball dropped safely between cover and mid-off.
There was no such luck for Omaima four balls later, however, when she went for a hurried single off Kate Cross as Tammy Beaumont swooped from mid-off and threw down the stumps at the non-striker’s end with an excellent direct hit.
Sidra In the space of three Sciver deliveries, Ameen produced two magnificent drives to the boundary on either side of the V, but Pakistan were largely contained, facing 18 scoreless balls and nine overs without a boundary before Ameen threaded Cross through square leg for four, beating Ecclestone who ran round from fine leg and dived in vain.
Meanwhile, Brunt struck again to remove Nida Dar, this time with a full ball that landed low and in line on the front pad.
