The day began with a 31-gun salute in Washington, D.C., and a 21-gun salute in the provincial capitals. The echoes of Allah-o-Akbar could be heard throughout the room.
After Fajr prayers, special prayers for the country’s success and prosperity were held at mosques.
The day’s highlight was a spectacular military parade in Islamabad when contingents from the three armed services and other security personnel marched past while fighter planes performed aerobatic acrobatics.
The parade also included the marching of numerous floats reflecting various facets of provincial culture. A special float depicting the OIC countries was also included in the procession.
Pakistan is hosting the 48th session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s Council of Foreign Ministers, which began yesterday and will end today.
As Guests of Honour, global dignitaries attending the OIC also observed the Pakistan Day Parade.
