The United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) on Tuesday officially announced the ending of the Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (Global UGRAD) for Pakistani students.

The decision, communicated by the U.S. Department of State, marks the end of the program after 15 years of fostering educational and cultural exchange between the two nations.

The Global UGRAD Program, which has been an important platform for Pakistani students to gain academic exposure, leadership skills, and cultural experiences in the United States, will no longer be offered.

The announcement has come as a disappointment to numerous Pakistani students who had applied for this year’s cohort and were eagerly awaiting the opportunity.

The USEFP, in its statement, expressed its regret over the discontinuation of the programme but acknowledged the substantial impact it had over the years.

“The program has provided life-changing experiences for thousands of students, helping them grow academically, develop leadership skills, and engage in meaningful cultural exchanges,” said the foundation.

Over the years, the Global UGRAD Program has helped build bridges between communities in the U.S. and Pakistan.

The program not only enhanced the personal and professional development of students but also created a lasting impact on their communities.

USEFP emphasised that while the program’s closure marks the end of a significant chapter, it encourages Pakistani students to explore alternative educational and scholarship opportunities internationally.

The foundation urged students to seek out other avenues that align with their academic goals and aspirations.

“While this chapter is closing, we encourage you to explore other exchange and scholarship opportunities that may align with your aspirations,” the statement added.

The USEFP thanked all those who expressed interest in the program and recognised their commitment to academic and personal growth.

The organization concluded by wishing the students continued success in their academic and professional endeavours.
