BATKHELA: Prime Minister Imran Khan praised India’s administration for its “independent” foreign policy, saying it was for the development of the country’s people, according to The News, quoting international media.
“Today, I thank India for always having an independent foreign policy,” Prime Minister Imran Khan remarked at a public gathering in the Dargai tehsil of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Malakand province on Sunday.
The prime minister stated that India is a member of the quad alliance, which includes the United States, but that it still considers itself “neutral.” He further claimed that despite the sanctions imposed on Russia as a result of the current Russo-Ukrainian conflict, India continues to import oil from Russia.
“This is because India’s foreign policy is for its people,” he said.
During the rally, the prime minister told his supporters his foreign policy would also favor the people of Pakistan.
“I haven’t bowed before anyone and will not let my nation bow either,” said PM Imran Khan, who is rallying public support ahead of a no-confidence vote against him in Parliament.
Breaking the tradition of not openly addressing complicated foreign policy issues at public rallies, Prime Minister Imran Khan stated that he had told EU envoys seeking Pakistan’s support against Russia in the Russia-Ukraine conflict that “they broke protocol by making the request.”
He claimed that complying with the EU’s request would benefit Pakistan in no way.
“We lost 80,000 people and $100 billion as part of America’s war on terror in Afghanistan.”
Imran Khan’s speech has gotten a lot of attention — and praise — in the Indian media, with his statements generating headlines in both print and electronic media.
