‘Ap subko shukria’: Vernon Philander receives heartfelt farewell from Pakistan cricket team

The Pakistan cricket team gave former South African cricketer Vernon Philander a warm send-off after the former bowling consultant for the Men in Green decided to step down from his responsibilities.

Head coach Saqlain Mushtaq said of the former bowling consultant’s statistical contributions, “A wonderful person joined us on October 15, 2021, right before the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and today (November 29) he is leaving us.”

Mushtaq stated that during his time with the Pakistan cricket team, the Green Shirts played nine T20 games, winning eight of them.

“During these matches, the team took 28 wickets, and three players received player of the match trophies,” he said.

The team took 44 international wickets during Philander’s tenure, according to the head coach.

“These were our wonderful friend and brother Philander’s contributions,” he explained.

Taking advantage of the opportunity to share his experience with the team and management, the South African legend said, “Thank you for having me and making me feel welcome.”

He praised the players’ efforts, declaring that “you guys are the heroes” as a group.

“Keep raising the bar and competing,” Vernon Philander said, encouraging the team to keep enjoying cricket.

Surprising everyone in the room, he said in Urdu, “Aap subko shukriya” [Thank you, everyone].

The bowling coach bid farewell to the team, meeting all of the players as well as members of the management.

Vernon Darryl Philander is a South African former international cricketer. He was a right-handed bowling all-rounder; he had previously represented his country at under 19 level. He played for the South Africa national cricket team and Cape Cobras in South African domestic cricket.
