Prime Minister Imran Khan was handed a notice by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday night for violating the code of conduct for local body elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The ECP has also served notices on KP Chief Minister Mehmood Khan, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Federal Minister Murad Saeed, and provincial ministers Mohibullah and Dr. Amjad Ali, according to Pakistani sources.
Swat, the ECP’s District Monitoring Officer, issued the notice. On March 18, he ordered the Prime Minister, Chief Minister, and federal and provincial ministries to appear in person or by counsel.
Prime Minister Imran Khan was forbidden from visiting Swat by the ECP yesterday, yet he broke the rules by speaking to a public assembly.
The ECP had previously served PM Imran with a notice for speaking at a public assembly in Dir last week.
No public official can visit the areas in KP where the second phase of local body elections is planned for March 31, according to the ECP’s new rule of conduct.
