If we join hands with the Opposition, we will resign from the ministries: Pervaiz

LAHORE: Punjab Assembly Speaker and senior PML-Q leader Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said on Sunday that PML-Q members have agreed that the present assemblies’ terms will be completed.

Elahi told media in Lahore during a casual talk that the Constitution and law are extremely clear on the subject of no-confidence motions, and that the speaker of the National Assembly should obey them.

He further stated that the PTI’s partners – the PML-Q, MQM-P, and the BAP — are cooperating.

“If we join hands with the Opposition, we will resign from the ministries,” said Pervaiz.

He also said he met with Awn Chaudry, a member of the Jahangir Tareen faction, and that he will “soon make a declaration who to support.”

He further stated that a meeting with PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif will be held soon, but that the prime minister should continue to work hard.

Previously, the PML-Q had a consultative meeting on the no-confidence motion, during which the party addressed its relations with both the existing administration and the opposition. The meeting also revealed the results of its conversations with government allies.

PML-Q has also decided to resume the consultations tomorrow, according to sources.

Pervaiz Elahi would be appointed Punjab Chief Minister by the PML-N and the PPP: sources
Previously, the PML-N and the PPP agreed to designate Elahi as Punjab chief minister in exchange for their support for the no-confidence motion to remove Prime Minister Khan.

According to sources within the Opposition parties, the decision will be announced within the next 24 hours.

They claimed that a top PPP leader notified the PML-Q, which is a crucial ally of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government.
