The urge to declare oneself a messiah for multiple reasons including desire for leadership and influence is not new to history.

The latest instance in a series reported in Turkey where a man identified as Mustafa Çabuk was held along with followers.

The man located in Külcüler village of Çanakkale’s Bayramiç district of Turkey was reportedly claiming to have a divine connection and was held for making financial gains by selling real estate.

The accused man and his followers are facing allegations of exploiting religious beliefs for financial gains.

It all started after the 2023 earthquake when the man started renting hotels and homes, claiming to assist earthquake victims, while simultaneously sharing what he described as divine messages online.

Çabuk and his followers are booked under sections related to financial fraud, and to deceive masses.

It was also reported that weapons were recovered from his group members during the raid.

Many of his followers are believed to have been misled, raising questions about accountability for those who provided financial support.
