Former President Asif Ali Zardari is due to meet PML-Q chairman Chaudhary Shujaat Hussain today (Wednesday), sources said Geo News, as the Opposition raises support for its no-confidence vote.
Officials familiar with the meeting said Zardari is likely to ask the Chaudhary brothers to join the opposition in overthrowing the PTI-led government at the centre.
Shujaat and Fazl talk about the no-trust motion.
The meeting comes a day after Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain met with JUI-F chairman Maulana Fazlur Rehman at his Islamabad residence with a delegation.
Issues of mutual interest, the current political environment, the no-trust motion against the PTI-led government, and other topics were covered during the meeting.
According to The News, in answer to Maulana’s plea, the PML-Q president stated that he could not make a judgment on the no-confidence vote on his own.
The JUI-F leader further expressed his disappointment with Shujaat for declining Shahbaz Sharif’s invitation. Fazl claimed he had asked Shahbaz to invite Chaudhry Shujaat to his home.
The Fazl-Shujaat meeting came just hours after the Opposition presented a motion of no confidence in Prime Minister Imran Khan to the National Assembly Secretariat.
The no-confidence vote has been signed by 86 legislators from the opposition parties.
Shahida Akhtar Ali of the JUI-F, Khawaja Saad Rafique of the PML-N, Marriyum Aurangzeb, Ayaz Sadiq, Rana Sanaullah, and Naveed Qamar and Shazia Marri of the PPP submitted the no-trust motion and requisition for a session of the NA Secretariat.
The PML-Q had previously pledged “full support” to Prime Minister Imran Khan as the opposition strives to depose the present regime.
Moonis Elahi, the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Q, has dismissed reports that his party is leaning towards the opposition, saying that if someone came to their house, they would be welcomed.
