ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Imran Khan has “dared” the Opposition parties’ alliance to file a no-confidence motion against his administration, claiming that there is “no threat to democracy.”
“[The Opposition] may go ahead and file the no-trust resolution as it wishes, but we are well prepared,” the premier stated at the PTI’s core committee meeting in Islamabad.
PM Khan remarked that people who fear their trials cannot bring revolution with the money they have illegally earned. He was referring to lawmakers who are facing corruption charges in the courts.
“We’ll thwart the thieves’ plan,” he declared.
Earlier, the core committee met to discuss the country’s present political situation. Babar Awan, the PM’s adviser on Parliamentary Affairs, gave a legal update to the meeting.
Minister for Foreign Affairs Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar, and Minister for Defence Parvez Khattak also attended the meeting.
Meanwhile, sources close to the situation say that Prime Minister Imran Khan has decided to bring the bill for the formation of the South Punjab province to the National Assembly as soon as possible.
Both the administration and unified Opposition have been blaming each other for failure in the ongoing conflict between the two sides as the latter’s efforts to topple the government grow intense with every passing day.
While PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari lead a long march towards Islamabad, which will be joined by other opposition parties on the way, the PTI-led government is carrying out separate rallies and marches.
PM Imran criticizes the Opposition’s vote of no confidence
On Sunday, Prime Minister Imran Khan addressed a public rally in the Vehari District’s Tehsil Mailsi, informing the crowd about the leaders behind the move.
Starting with his arch-rival Nawaz Sharif, the premier reminded the nation of how the former prime minister tried to flee the country by acting like a “Bollywood star.”
“If the PML-N is paying attention, consider this: can a jackal ever become a leader?” PM Imran enquired. The PML-N, according to the premier, is moving the no-confidence motion because Nawaz Sharif is not in Pakistan.
PM Imran remarked that if someone wants to understand about the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Shahbaz Sharif, they could look for “Maqsood chaprasi.”
