In the Pakistan’s education history, a new chapter has begun. To tackle the issue of education crisis of Pakistan, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif announced nationwide “Education Emergency” aiming to enroll the staggering number of 26 million children currently out of school. The main goal behind this initiative is to transform Pakistan into one of most educated countries in the world.
The commitment of Prime Minister’s was evident during national conference meeting about education emergency that held in Islamabad. Addressing a diverse audience of parliamentarians, diplomats, ministers, development partners and educational leaders, Sharif announced his personal oversight of the program. To ensure successful implementation, he emphasized collaboration with the provincial chief minister.
The Prime Minister highlighted his plan, taking courage from his past achievements. He successfully enrolled 90,000 children from brick links into schools as chief minister of the Punjab, moreover he also transferred 10,000 to Punjab Daanish authority, a system which provides underprivileged children free and the high-quality education. Another successful plan during his tenure was Punjab education endowment fund, that provided merit-based scholarships to countless deserving students.
However, he also acknowledged the numerous challenges ahead. The enrollment of the 26 million children and overseeing the issue of stunted growth will need enormous financial resources. Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, minister for the federal education and professional training, emphasized the grave nature of the matter by stressing that Pakistan’s out of school children exceed those of over 150 countries.
The conference served as a forum for international collaboration. representatives from the British high commission, UNICEF, the world bank, the world food program, alongside Pakistani mountaineer Naila Kiani, all underlined the importance of the education. Their participation demonstrates international support for the prime minister Shahbaz sharif’s ambitious plan.
